A Dover Man's Fatal Decision Unravels on US Route 13
In Townsend, Delaware, a 36-year-old man from Dover was arrested for DUI and related charges following a fatal pedestrian crash. This incident occurred on January 24, 2024, around 5:19 p.m. The man was driving a 2023 Kia Soul northbound on US Route 13 when his vehicle, reported to be traveling erratically, struck a 40-year-old pedestrian. The pedestrian, who was wearing bright reflective clothing, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash resulted in the Kia stopping on the right shoulder of US Route 13 and subsequently catching fire. The driver of the Kia, who appeared to be under the influence of a drug, was not injured. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of a Drug, Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance, Driving While Suspended, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Additionally, there were two passengers in the Kia, a 23-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child, both from Dover, who were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation of this incident. They are seeking witnesses to the crash to come forward with any information.
