Tragic Loss: 8-Year-Old Boy Killed in Parked Car During Family Fishing Trip by Alleged DUI Driver

An 8-year-old boy, Javier Velez from Philadelphia, was killed in a crash in Absecon, New Jersey.

He was asleep in his family's parked car during a fishing trip with his father and brother. The car, parked on the White Horse Pike, was hit by a Nissan Sentra driven by 25-year-old Edward Johnston of Egg Harbor City, who was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. The impact trapped Javier inside the car, leading to his death at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. The family plans to create a memorial at the crash site, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family and cover funeral expenses.
