Tragedy on Britain's roads: how speeding and alcohol driving led to the death of a 90-year-old woman

This incident occurred on December 10, 2016 in Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom. Liam Gallagher, driving his black Audi and speeding, hit 90-year-old Edna Fulwood, who was crossing the road. As a result of the collision, Fulwood died in hospital. At the time of the accident, Gallagher was intoxicated: the alcohol content in his blood at the time of the accident was 42 micrograms per 100 milliliters of exhaled air, which exceeded the permissible limit of 35 micrograms. The investigation revealed that Gallagher was traveling at a speed of 54 mph 90 meters before the collision, and at the time of trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian, his speed was at least 44 mph.

Gallagher pleaded guilty in court to charges of reckless driving causing death and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was sentenced to 19 months in prison, suspended for two years, as well as 200 hours of mandatory community service. Gallagher was also banned from driving for two years until he passed an advanced driving test. Judge David Fletcher, passing sentence, noted that Gallagher will have to live with this tragic case for the rest of his life.
